DescriptionView of the Central Part of Brooklyn, looking southwest. The Brooklyn Bank, the Congregational Church, the Unitarian Church, the Post Office, and the Court House occupy the junction of two major roads. The Road on the left is Rt. 169 (Canterbury Road); the road on the right is Rt. 6 (Providence Road). A signpost occupies the left foreground. The tree beside the bank is identified as an "Elm." According to Barber's text, the residence of General Israel Putnam was formerly located opposite the Unitarian Church and the field in which he was ploughing when he first heard of the Battle of Lexington is in full view
