DescriptionPolitical campaign poster with oval bust-length portraits of four men, all wearing coats shirts and ties. One man is bald. Two have sideburns. The names of the subjects are inscribed beneath each portrait: "H. GREELEY." "W.H. SEWARD." "J.G. WHITTIER" "C. SUMNER." An eagle standing on a shield is in the center between the four portraits. The eagle holds a banner inscribed: "LIBERTY". Crossed olive branches are below the shield. Thirty-one stars surround the eagle and shield. The individual portraits and the entire composition are surrounded by double rules.

NotesSubject Note: The Free Soil Party flourished from 1848 to 1854. However, this print appears to be slightly later in date, based on the address of E.B. & E.C. Kellogg. (Finlay 4/10/2002)
