DescriptionThe Hartford covered bridge is shown before and after the fire of May 17, 1895. Signs read "WALK / YOUR / HORSES / OVER THE BRIDGE" and "MULCAHY CLOTHIERS / AND / OUTFITTERS." Utility poles and wires are in the foreground; an elevated box appears to house transformers. In photographs of the fire, spectators, mostly men, crowd the ruins of the bridge, and debris litters the foreground. The Connecticut River and the East Hartford shore are in the background.
