DescriptionMen crowd the west end of the covered bridge, looking at the smoking ruins. Only a small portion of the entrance remains standing. A sign reads: "To see the bargains in Mulcahy's window - Walk your horses." Some men stand on the stone abutment in the middle of the Connecticut River. A tall derrick, perhaps fire-fighting equipment, is nearby, possibly on a barge. Boys and girls stand on a wooden wharf or platform in the left foreground. A large sign, leaning in the river, reads: "Mulcahy / the..." A utility pole is at the far right. The East Hartford shore of the river is in the background.
