DescriptionWoman's fitted black wool coat with a black velvet collar that extends into black wool revers, trimmed with a 3/4-inch wide band of black silk satin. The revers are about five inches wide along the bottom edge. The body of the coat is decorated with 1 1/8-inch-wide strips of the black satin laid on in strapwork-like designs, with satin-covered buttons and cording imitating buttonholes between the strips. The side seams are open for 20 1/2 inches from the bottom; the openings are edged with strips of satin. The sleeves are slightly gathered at the shoulder and are trimmed around the wrists with the black satin strips and buttons. The coat is lined with black satin.

MarkingsWoven silk label stitched inside back of neck: "G. Fox & Co./ Hartford, Conn." It is gold script letters on blue, with a design of the left side of a laurel wreath surrounding a calligraphic "F.".
