An infrared photograph done in 2012 reveals the inscription to be: "Done by/ W.N. Adams / 1861 / Norwich Ct", with a diamond shaped graphite border around everything except the "Done by".NotesAttribution Note: Previously, this had been attributed to J. Denison Crocker. While undergoing conservation treatment at Williamstown Art Conservation Center in 2012, an infrared photograph was taken of the verso, where a pencil inscription was visible but not legible.
