He was born in Blanford, Massachusettes in 1815 and died in Hartford, Connecticut in 1880. He was owner of a dry goods business, director of Aetna Insurance Company, Society for Savings, Charter Oak Bank, American Asylum for the Deaf, and Hartford Hospital. He was a founder of the Asylum Hill Congregational Church. His wife was Mary Atwood Collins.
