DescriptionWoman's pocket, made of a block-printed fabric of an angular branching blue flower on a dark brown background. The fabric has been pieced (five pieces of this fabric, and one small piece of plain, tan cotton.) The slit is 10 7/8 inches long and is bound with a brown and white dot print, with a later (about 1830s) repair made with a blue and chrome orange print. The outer edges of the pocket are turned to the inside and stitched; the top edge is bound with a brown and white dot print (not the same as the slit binding. One original waist tie remains--it is a hand-woven blue and white linen tape. The other tape was replaced by a thick, short, white cord. The front of the pocket is lined with plain-woven, undyed linen. The back fabric is pieced of two different linens, and a plain cotton. Holes in the back have old patch repairs made with fustian, a twill-woven cotton, and a plain cotton.
