DescriptionViews of construction of the eleven-story G. Fox & Co. department store building on Main Street, Hartford, from the laying of the foundation, through the completion of the building.

Highlights include (.99) horses pulling a wagon, men digging the foundation, and the use of a steam shovel labeled "TYPD-O THE THEW AUTOMATIC SHOVEL CO LORAIN O / JAMES MILLER JR / CONTRACTOR / WEST HARTFORD / CONN"; (.106) views from Main Street of the Woolworth building and the steel structure of G. Fox & Co. with a sign that reads "THIS ENTIRE FIREPROOF BUILDING / WILL BE OCCUPIED BY / G. FOX & COMPANY / TEMPORARY STORES / PRATT, TRUMBULL & CHURCH STS." Men and women walk along the street and two men are painting a sign on the side of an awning overhanging the sidewalk; and (.119) a view of Main Street that includes the Brown Thomson & Co. building with window displays of women's clothing. Cars and horses with carts are along the side of the street and utility poles and wires are visible.
