NotesHistorical Note: In about 1872, the Valley Railroad extended its line from Saybrook Junction southeastward to Saybrook Point. The large remnants of the English earthen fort were removed to make way for the right of way, and much of the earth was used as fill in extending the railroad across the North Cove and its marshes. (Malley 1999)

Historical Note: According to a tag written by the donor, this musket ball was found while the site of the old fort at Saybrook, Connecticut, was being excavated for the railroad. Supposedly, there was a bag of these balls, but the bag and the other musket balls were lost. (Hudson 4/26/2007)
