DescriptionLarge bore matchlock musket with exposed firing mechanism. The match lock is exposed on the right side of the barrel and secured between the trigger and hammer by a nail. There is a large "c" shaped piece of iron for the spring, which allows the match to stay in place when lit. The pan is attached to the right side of the barrel, but is missing most of its original cover. The barrel is secured to the stock by three copper bands located at the very muzzle end, the very butt end and the middle of the barrel. The butt stock is very large and is made from two piece of wood held together by iron staples on the side. The muzzle end of the barrel is rounded but gradually flattens to form two flat sides on the top.
