A label in the object file, hand-written in black ink, reads, "Painted about 1804 by/ Charlotte Perkins, 1790-1873/ d. of Enoch & Anna (Pitkin)/ Perkins. She was born &/ died in a house on Main Street/ where the 'Linden' now stands/ opp. 396."
