DescriptionWoman's linen bed jacket with center front opening without means of fastening. The turn-down collar is rounded and edged with a wide whipped ruffle. The sleeves are gathered into the top of the armscye and taper to a narrow wrist, which is edged with a narrow whipped ruffle. The sides of the jacket are gored. The back fullness is controlled by a drawstring at the fashionable waistline (2 1/2 inches below the bottom of the armscye). The bottom edge and center front opening are finished with a 1/2-inch hem. The back of the jacket is gathered into the neckline.

NotesHistorical Note: Mrs. George W. Perkins was said to have worn this bed jacket when she lived in the Enoch Perkins House in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1839. However, the style of the jacket indicates that it dates to the 1820s.
