DescriptionSummer spread with a Chimneysweep pattern center panel surrounded at the sides and bottom by an appliqué vine and leaf border. The pattern of stepped blocks is made of pieces of white and printed plain-woven cotton, or calico; the cotton is printed with brown, blue, pink and red geometric and floral pattern. The calico border consists of a pair of grape bunches at the bottom center out of which emerge an undulating vine with leaves and flowers. The calico is applied onto a muslin backing. Each side of the spread is finished on the selvedge, while the top and bottom have a narrow hem.

Condition: The summer spread has scattered light brown spots and stains.

InscribedAt one corner of the top of the sumemr spread is a canvas label with a hand-written inscription in black ink: "This quilt top/ one hundred and fifty/ years old./ Owner Mrs. Mabel Kinne/ Canterbury/ Conn." Below this is hand-written in blue ink: "1933 hot day June".
