Gyula Zilzer

BiographyGyula Zilzer was an American printmaker, painter, designer, and illustrator. Zilzer was also a production designer and art director on major films, including "Sahara" from 1943. He was born in Hungary and studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Budapest, the Hans Hofmann School of Art in Munich, and the Academie Colorossi in Paris before emigrating to the United States in 1932. He worked for government art projects for the W.P.A. in New York during the Depression. In 1938, he moved to California. He died in Hollywood.
