Thomas Danforth Boardman and Sherman Boardman

American, 1810 - 1860
BiographyThomas Danforth Boardman and Sherman Boardman built the largest and longest-lived pewter business in the United States in the early nineteenth century. In 1806, Sherman joined his brother Thomas with manufacturing facilities in Hartford and various retail ventures in New York City and Philadelphia. Sherman Boardman died in March 1861, and Thomas continued to operate the Hartford factory until his death in 1873.

The Boardmans used over thirty marking dies during the years they were in business. Some marks were used for many years and are found on both early and late forms made by the company.
