In the 1870 Southington Census (p. 89), he is listed as a saloon keeper. In the 1876 Southington Directory and the 1880 Southington Census (p.3), he is a grocer. In the
1882 Southington Directory, he advertised as a dealer of fine groceries, provisions, crockery, wooden ware, etc. at 51 Main Street, Plansville, Connecticut. In the 1900 Southington Census, he is listed as a grocer who was born in Ireland, has been married for thirty years, and who immigrated to the United States in 1852.
