BiographyThe Onondaga Pottery Company, a ceramics manufacturing plant in Syracuse that had its beginnings in 1841, still operates today. From 1855 to 1871, the plant was called Empire Pottery. In 1871, the plant was reorganized under new owners, and the name was changed to the Onondaga Pottery Company. In 1966, the name became the Syracuse China Company, in order to incorporate the previously existing trade name of "Syracuse China" into the company name. Onondaga was organized to manufacture white graniteware and a high-fired semi-vitreous ware. The company also guaranteed against crackling and crazing. The Syracuse China Company still has extensive operations to this day.
