BiographyDaniel Clay set up shop as a cabinetmaker in Greenfield, Massachusetts, in the early 1790s; he added Windsor chairs to his line of business by November 1797. By 1808, Daniel Clay had branced into the retail sale of looking glasses, picture frames, hardware, and ceramic goods. According to an exhibition label written by Robert Trent, it is not known where Clay apprenticed, but his furniture resembles Hartford work.
