Solomon Plant

American, 1741 - 1822
BiographySolomon Plant, the son of James and Bathsheba Page Plant, was born 1 May 1741, in Branford, Connecticut. He served in the French and Indian War of 1759, then settled in Stratford, Connecticut, where he built both double flyer and single flyer spinning wheels.

Solomon Plant married Sarah Bennett (d. 1815) on 16 November 1769. They had three daughters, one of whom died in infancy, and one son, David Plant, who was lieutenant governor of Connecticut from 1823-1827 and then served in Congress from 1827-1829. Sarah Bennett Plant died 15 September 1815. Solomon Plant remarried on 19 November 1816 to Mrs. Esther Frost Botsford. Solomon Plant died 20 May 1822.
