Erwin Raisz

Hungarian-American, 1893 - 1968
BiographyErwin Raisz was born in Locse, Hungary on March 1, 1893. He received his degree in civil engineering and architecture from the Royal Polytechnicum in Budapest. After serving in World War I, he emigrated to the United States and earned a Ph.D at Columbia University. In 1931, he joined the staff of the Institute of Geographical Exploration at Harvard University, where he taught cartography and served as curator of the map collection. He died in Bangkok, Thailand on December 1, 1968.
