DescriptionWoman's bonnet of blue/white shot silk, lined with quilted cream-colored silk in the brim and with pale beige blazed cotton in the crown. The brim, which forms a horseshoe shape around the face, is gathered on wires. The five gathering lines are comprised of three seams alternating with two narrow casings into which have been threaded a narrow stiffener. The brim corners are rounded, with the brim ends dropping below the line of the crown. The crown is flat against the back of the head and is gathered to the brim. The curtain (or bavolet) is gathered to the base of the crown at the back of the neck; it is wadded but not quilted. The bottom of the curtain flares out to points that are stitched to the curved ends of the brim. A blue and white plaid silk ribbon bow decorates the back of the bonnet at the base. This ribbon is also used for the bonnet ties.
