DescriptionBlown opal glass mug with a flared rim, a baluster-shaped body, and a round, flat foot with a pontil mark on the bottom. A curved handle is applied to one side. There is a band of gilding at the rim and gilded decoration opposite the handle. This consists of the words, "Remember/ me", surrounded by a neo-classical-style 'U'-shaped wreath of flowers and leaves on branches. The wreath is flanked by a pair of sprays of leaves. Some gilding has worn off the mug, especially at the rim. There is a horizontal crack in the glass below the gilded decoration. An additional crack is located at the base of the handle. Five spots of an unknown substance have adhered to the bottom of the mug.
Pontil mark: A rough place on a blown glass object where the solid metal rod, or pontil, is cracked off the object after final shaping and decoration. Pontil marks can be polished to achieve a smooth surface.
