DescriptionTrivet consisting of a square, white earthenware tile with a thin, square sheet of cork adhered to the bottom. The trivet is decorated with a printed brown enamel scene showing a two-story building with a small porch, multi-paned windows, and corner quoins. The building is surrounded by trees and sits back on a small lawn. there is a lamp post near the street in the foreground. A small sign is located near the sidewalk that leads to the front door. A title to the lower left of the decoration reads, "Simsbury Free Library/ Built in 1877". A small metal loop on a textile and paper backing is inserted into a slot in the cork backing.
NotesSubject Note: The Simsbury Free Library was established in 1872 as a social and literary club to provide a public library for the town of Simsbury. In 1874-1887, funds were donated by Amos R. Eno, and in 1890, the Simsbury Free Library was dedicated. The library continued to be funded by Eno trust funds with town assistance, but Eno funds eventually ran out. In 1986, a new building was constructed and renamed Simsbury Public Library.
