DescriptionWide-mouthed stoneware jar or crock, with a salt glaze on the exterior and a brown slip glaze, or Albany-type glaze on the interior. The jar/crock has a flat bottom, cylindrical sides, and a rolled rim. There is a double line circling the jar/crock just below the rim. Below this, on opposite sides, are two lug handles. The handles are pressed against the jar/crock along their full length, attaching completely to the side of the jar/crock. Between the two handles is an impressed gallon capacity mark of, "5", colored in with cobalt blue. Beneath this is a rectangular maker's mark, "NORWICH/ POTTERY/ WORKS". The jar/crock's primary decoration is located below this, consisting of a large, circular, stamped or stencilled wreath. Inside the wreath is the maker's name, "NORWICH/ POTTERY/ WORKS", also stamped or stencilled. Below this, near the bottom of the jar, are a few obscurred cobalt blue numbers, possibly including a year. There are a few imperfections in the glaze, two chips in the rim, and a small piece of cloth attached to the top surface of the rim.
