DescriptionRound, wide-mouthed, stoneware jar with a salt glaze on the exterior and a brown glaze on the interior. The jar is decorated with hand-painted cobalt blue as well as incised lines. The jar has two pulled lug handles. The handles are pressed against the jar along their full length, attaching completely to the side of the jar just below the neck. The base of each end of each handle is decorated with hand-painted cobalt blue. A stamped mark is located on the side between each handle; "P.CROSS" is on one side and "HARTFORD" is on the other. Beneath each stamped mark is a four-petal flower outlined with incised lines and filled in with cobalt blue. Overall, the exterior glaze of the jar shows extensive crazing and brown deposits on the glaze, especially near the bottom. There are at several flakes in the glaze to the lower left of the "HARTFORD" mark, and one large chip in the rim. Portions of the interior brown glaze have flaked off as well. There is an unknown sticky substance adhered to the rim that exudes a stale odor.
