DescriptionRectangular, vertical, mosaic earthenware tile, reflecting the Arts and Crafts and the pre-Raphaelite styles of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The large tile is composed of many smaller tiles that are connected with black earthenware. These, in turn, rest on a solid earthenware block with a cement backing. The tile shows a woman in a blue costume with orange hair, facing to the left, looking down, and holding a bouquet of red flowers. The abstract background consists of a blue sky, various colored hills, and green grass. The figure of the woman is above the tile's title, "EVENTIDE", also formed out of smaller, irregularly shaped tiles. The entire scene and title are surrounded by a border of green rectangular tiles. The back of the cement block, adhered to the back of the earthenware block, has two parallel, undulating lines incised in the surface.
The tile has minor cracks in the surface of the black earthenware, and some crazing, or cracking, in the glazed tiles themselves. About a third of the green tile in the upper right corner is missing, revealing the backing ceramic below. A portion of cement is missing from the back left corner of the tile, revealing the earthenware above.
