The Hartford Faience Co.

founded 1895
BiographyThe Hartford Faience Co. was founded in 1895 and continues until this day. They are known for making Arts and Crafts style architectural tiles around the turn of the twentieth century, and for making ceramic electrical fixtures beginning in the 1930s. The name Hawkinson Porcelain is printed on the back of a few items owned by the Connecticut Historical Society, that are believed to have been made by the Hartford Faience Co (i.e. 1988.46.1-.2a,b). This name is believed to refer to John L. Hawkinson, Secretary of the Hartford Faience Company at one time. (Source: records for 1988.46.1-.2a,b, given by Thomas and Alice Kugelman.)

According to Arlene Palmer, ceramics and glass consultant, the Crockery & Glass Journal is a potential source of information about the Hartford Faience Company. (Hunt 2/22/2005)
