DescriptionDecorative, oval cameo made of a light blue porcelain background with white porcelain relief decoration. The relif decoration consists of a woman dressed in a clingy, Grecian-inspired costume. The costume swirls about her profile as she walks to the right. Her left hand rests on a naked child who walks beside her. The woman's right wrist is held above her shoulder, and the child's left arm is raised.
There are several imperfections in the cameo that would have occured at the time of manufacture. The woman's right wrist is incomplete. In three areas, on both of the woman's calves and on her chest, the porcelain seems to have bubbled up, creating cracks and bumps in the white porcelain. A blue substance oozes from two of the bumps, one on the woman's left leg and one on her chest. The blue substance is also visible on the back of the cameo. There are two scratches of blue substance near the lower left rim of the cameo. Additionally, the white porcelain of the woman's chest has accumulated dirt on the highest raised portions. The back of the cameo is smooth and bears the inscription "Hartford/ Porcelain Cameo".
