DescriptionCylindrical, blown opal glass mug with a plain rim, an applied, elongated, ear-shaped handle, a flared foot, and a medium kick and a pontil mark on the bottom. The mug is decorated with hand-painted orange, pink, blue, green, and yellow enamels. The primary decoration is painted opposite the handle. It shows a gentleman in a tricorn hat holding a walking stick and wearing a pink and orange suit. He is standing against a pale blue background, inside a cartouche with an elaborate border of shells, scrolls, fruit, and greenery. Sprays of flowers are painted on either side of the cartouche. A geometric border is painted in orange enamel above and below the flowers and cartouche. There is a significant crack in the mug, running from the pontil mark to the rim.

Kick: An indentation in the bottom of a drinking glass, bottle, or other glass object.
Pontil mark: A rough place on a blown glass object where the solid metal rod, or pontil, is cracked off the object after final shaping and decoration. Pontil marks can be polished to achieve a smooth surface.
