DescriptionSmall copper lusterware pitcher with applied decorations over a field of blue, painted with purple, green, yellow, and brown enamel. After the pitcher was formed by a mechanical molding process, the handle was molded and applied to the body, and the spout, press-molded to create the shape of a man's face, was applied opposite the handle. The decoration was applied to the outside of the pitcher by applying gold luster over a deep blue slip, creating the look of copper. The luster was added to the rim and the foot, creating wide bands of copper luster at the neck and foot of the pitcher, in addition to the handle. A band of the blue slip was left visible in the middle of the pitcher. Next, a molded and applied decoration was added: two small pastoral scenes showing a woman with a small pet on either side, and a single flower below the spout. These were painted with enamels. Some of the enamel has fallen off the floral motif under the spout.
