DescriptionRound, hard paste porcelain teacup and saucer with hand-painted underglaze cobalt blue decoration.
Teacup (.a): The teacup has a small molded and applied handle to one side, and a tall foot. The outside of the teacup is decorated with two floral scenes showing a patch of ground with leafy plants and flowers hand-painted in a naturalistic manner. Between these two scenes and opposite the handle, there are two small flying insects, at least one of which is a dragonfly. A double line is hand-painted at the outside edge of the rim, but there is a far more elaborate border at the inside edge. This border consists of dark blue abstract shapes, perhaps a stylized leafy plant, hand-painted along a thick dark blue line. This border is repeated on the inside bottom of the cup, surrounding a flower with many petals. Imperfections in the porcelain appear as black dots or lines on the surface of the ceramic. There is a crack in the rim which runs down the side of the teacup, almost opposite the handle.
Saucer (.b): The saucer is decorated with an eight-petal flower in the center, surrounded by a border of dark blue abstract shapes, perhaps a stylized leafy plant, along a thick dark blue line. This is surrounded by two floral scenes showing leafy plants and flowers hand-painted in a naturalistic manner. A dragonfly hovers over one group of plants, and possibly an insect or hummingbird hovers over the other. These are surrounded by a border of dark blue abstract shapes, perhaps a stylized leafy plant, hand-painted along a thick dark blue line at the rim. The bottom of the rim is painted with three groups of dark blue leaves and flowers along a trailing blue vine. Imperfections in the porcelain appear as black dots or lines on the surface of the ceramic. There are a few spots of dirt adhered to the top surface of the rim.
