DescriptionIn the interior of a room, a girl sits in a large upholstered chair, holding a dog in her arms. A second girl stands beside the chair, holding an open book. With her left hand, she points to a page. Both girls wear dresses with square necklines. The girl on the right also wears an apron and has a necklace of pearls or beads around her neck. The girl on the left rests her right foot on a large pillow trimmed with tassels. The chair is trimmed with fringe. A large, lidded Chinese ceramic jar is on a sideboard in the right background. Drapery is in the left background. Another piece of fabric is draped across the left side of the back of the chair. Striped wallpaper is on the wall in the background. Patterned carpet is on the floor.
