DescriptionBust length studio portrait of Margaret Swan Cheney as a young woman. Her body is angled to the right but she is looking directly at the camera. Margaret is wearing a dark colored dress that has a high collar. There is a white ruffled collar sticking up from underneath. She also appears to be wearing a choker necklace that has a cameo pendant hanging from it. Margaret's hair is styled in a knot on top of her head.
There is a thin, gold border on the carte-de-visite, around the image area.

Cataloging worksheet in object file states the following: "Margaret was the only daughter of Seth and Ednah. She attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and worked in the Women's Laboratory. Her focus was on Chemistry. She died at the age of 27 of typhoid."
