DescriptionView of George Wells Cheney, Sr. seated at his desk in his office at the Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company. Displayed on his desk are a 45th Anniversary Commemorative Book, a silver pitcher, and a clock with thermometer. There are other books and papers on the desk as well. Hanging on the wall in the background are framed photographs: one of the Inspection of Troop B on September 30, 1916 in Arivaca, AZ, one of four men from Troop B on horseback, and a photo of Phoenix's 1939 Leaders Conference in Osterville, MA. The name plate on the desk reads "GEORGE W. CHENEY".

According to cataloging worksheet in object file, "George Wells Cheney was a graduate of Yale University, he served during WWI and worked for the Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company." He was the only child of Wells Wadsworth Cheney and Lucy Compton Street.
