DescriptionThree-quarter-length portrait of a woman seated in an ornately carved chair. She wears a striped dress with a V-shaped waistline. The fabric for the bodice was cut diagonally and pieced together. The short sleeves are composed of two layers of lace, possibly eyelet lace, with floral appliqués. A rose is pinned at her breast, and she holds a matching rose in her left hand. She holds a handerchief in her right hand. A strand of pearls or beads is in her hair. A large bouquet of flowers in an urn or vase is on a table in the right background. In the background is a wall with unusual patterned wallpaper or stenciling.
