DescriptionHalf-length portrait of Mary Saltonstall Whiting in middle age, wearing a figured or brocaded green dress with a square neck that is edged in white lace. The sleeves are three-quarter length, with ruffles at the elbow and layers of white lace under the ruffles. She is wearing four strands of pearls tightly clasped around her neck. A gray ribbon headband is on her head, with a rosette at the top and a bow at the nape of her neck. She is holding a pink rose in her left hand at the center of her chest. Her right hand is resting in her lap.
