DescriptionPortrait of an older man in a room in the Connecticut Historical Society. He is seated in a high back armchair beside a table covered with a blue cloth with a reddish border, on which stand two books, one on Connecticut laws. A third book lies on the table, and the man's left hand, holding an old, folded manuscript, rests on the book along with his eyeglasses. A red glasses case is on the table. A curtain behind him fills the upper left portion of the painting. On the right in the background is a window with narrow diamond panes.
