DescriptionPieced quilt with appliqué details in a Carolina Lily pattern variation. The quilt consists of a hand-stitched pieced top of plain-woven printed cotton, or calico, cotton batting, and a printed, plain-woven white cotton backing. Each block consists of three red flowers on a green stem with a yellow background; the green stem is appliquéd. The green and yellow fabric each have at least two different prints; some of the fabric has printing errors. The blocks are on point and separated by chevron sashing in a printed red cotton with small white flowers. The quilting pattern follows the chevron sashing. All four sides of the quilt have a brown and white fabric edging.
Condition: One area of the backing has dark brown stains that have bled through the quilt top. Overall, the quilt has scattered light brown stains on the top and extensive stains on the backing. The quilt top has an L-shaped tear at the bottom edge. The edging has a tear at the left center edge.

Label TextThis pieced quilt, made by sewing small shapes together to create a larger pattern, is accented with appliqué. The red, green, and yellow squares and triangles come together to create the vibrant red flowers that make up this quilt. Accented with green appliquéd stems, the flowers seem to raise their heads to welcome spring.
