DescriptionPieced quilt in an Old Italian Block pattern variation. The quilt consists of a pieced top of printed plain-woven cotton, or calico, thick batting, and a calico backing; the three layers are joined with a hand-stitched quilting pattern. Each block is pieced from calico printed in muted tones of brown, blue, red and purple. Each block consists of a square in the center surrounded by alternating triangles and strips of fabric. Each block is separated by vertical and horizontal sashing to create a striped effect. The backing consists of a honeycomb print calico and a blue plaid calico. Each side of the quilt is finished with straight grain fabric binding.
Condition: The top has very few light brown stains. The underside of the binding at one side of the quilt has been repaired with a strip of white cotton. There is a small hole in the backing.
