DescriptionTrolley tracks under construction run down the middle of the street. A switch is in the foreground. Barrels and a wheelbarrow stand by the side of the street. Two trolley cars are visible in the distance. Most of the commercial buildings that line the street have awnings. Men and women walk along the sidewalks. Signs read: "Public Market Co." "J.H. McK[ernan] / Ropkins & C[ompany] / Ales Port[ers] / Highland / Lager B[eer]" "Ice Cream Parlor."
NotesSubject Note: The Public Market Co. was located at 609-613 Main Street. John H. McKernan operated a saloon at 532 Main Street. Ropkins & Co. were brewers of Canada malt ales and porter, located at 232-242 Sheldon Street, Hartford.
