DescriptionFamily in yard of two-story clapboard house with louvered shutters. Bearded man sits on folding stool with book in lap and hat on ground. Boy sits in chair. Girl in rocking chair with needlework in lap and bowl with fabric in it on ground at her left. Women standing next to girl in rocking chair. Woman holding lace edged fabric sitting in rocking chair. Girl in fabric and wood folding chair. Front of house has bay window. Behind people are one-story side ells of house; on right facing front yard is porch with fluted columns and fan window in gable. Behind it is glass enclosed porch with watering can on step. Outbuilding at rear.On left behind seated man is a garden with flowering bushes and trellis. Large trees in yard behind people. Inscription on back: "W. C. Hodge" "Rainbow; S. Side of Main St. now Bassett; stands exactly as was"

Subject Note: Rainbow was a village in Windsor located on a curve in the Farmington River a mile northwest of Poquonnock.
