DescriptionEight young men and boys stand at workbenches working on different kinds of pipes. Tools, including a vise and a file, are on the tables. A sink and what appears to be a water heater are in the background. Most of the men wear vests and neckties. One man wears a turtleneck jersey. A boy wears a cap, a striped shirt and suspenders. A blackboard at the back of the room reads "Hillyer Inst[itute]" Electric light bulbs hang from wires.
NotesSubject Note: The Hillyer Institute was the Educational Department of the Hartford YMCA. The YMCA was located at 315-323 Pearl Street, at the corner of Jewell Street.
