DescriptionYoung men and boys at work at anvils in what appears to be a basement classroom. Some of them hold sledge hammers, hammers or tongs. Some wear overalls or leather aprons. One man wears a bowler hat others wear caps. Several men have mustaches. A bucket and a pan of coal are in the left foreground. Large pipes extend upwards from a forge [?] and across the ceiling. Electric light bulbs hang from the ceiling on wires.
NotesSubject Note: The Hillyer Institute was the Educational Department of the Hartford YMCA. The YMCA was located at 315-323 Pearl Street, at the corner of Jewell Street.
