DescriptionDistant view of Haddam. The village is on a low hill in the middle of the composition. The most prominent buildings are the courthouse and the Congregational Church. The Connecticut River appears in the left background; East Haddam Landing, at the mouth of the Salmon River is faintly visible. A man seated sketching in a rocky field in the foreground is probably a self-portrait.
