DescriptionSeries of photographs documents the construction of a brick newspaper office building. Some photographs include automobiles, barrels, concrete blocks, construction equipment, construction workers, cranes, ladders, lumber, pipes, steel girders, trucks, and wheelbarrows. Some construction workers appear to be African-American. Some photographs include signs that read: "MASSACOE BUILDERS INC. / SIMSBURY, CONN." "STANLEY LESNEWSKY / CRANE / SERVICE". A bag is labeled "RUBEROID / ASBESTOS / FIBER". Later images show office interiors with calendars, chairs, desks, electric lights, filing cabinets, telephones, and typewriters. Interiors include signs that read: "FIRST / EDITION / 12:30 / SATURDAY...11:30" "CIRCULATING / DEPARTMENT" "ADVERTISING / DEPARTMENT" "DISPLAY ADS / ACCEPTED HERE".
NotesArtist Notes: Although two photographs are stamped to indicate that they were taken by Dick Spafford, it is not clear that he took all of the photographs. It is probable that all of the photographs were taken by Hartford Times photographers.

Subject Notes: These photographs appear to document the construction of an addition to the Hartford Times building at 10 Prospect Street.
