DescriptionA group of eighteen men and women poses, some seated and some standing, on a low platform inside a large room. All are in costume; a man in an Uncle Sam costume sits in the front center of the group. Another man is dressed as a farmer, a girl is dressed as a gypsy, and a woman is dressed as an Indian. Several men wear false beards and mustaches. One man wears a monocle. A tambourine leans against the chairs of a man sitting at the end of each row. A calendar advertising "ATLANTIC COAST LINE" hangs on a wall behind the group. It is open to May, 1916. Above and behind the group is a seemingly-permanent hanging which reads: "RELEIVE [sic] The DISTRESSED." A clock hangs on the wall behind the group and reads 9:10.
