DescriptionWoman's fine white linen chemise, with a wide, round neckline edged with a band made up of alternating vertical strips of ruched white cotton and eyelet embroidery, finished with a narrow edging of scalloped eyelet embroidery. The neckline opens at center front for about 5 1/2 inches; the opening is edged with the scalloped embroidery. The very short sleeves consist mostly of the same ruched and embroidered band that appears around the neckline. The sleeves are stitched onto the chemise body with raglan seams. The front and back panels of the chemise are gathered into the neckline. Triangular piecing at the side seams create width for the flare of the lower chemise. This piecing is sewn selvage-to-selvage. The hem is 1 1/8 inch deep.
