Label TextIn 1848, when steamboats began regular service on the Connecticut River, the village of East Haddam, located at Chapman's Ferry became known as Goodspeed's Landing. The name East Haddam Landing was transferred to another cluster of buildings about a mile upstream, previously known as the Upper Landing. Those are the names that appear on this map. In 1904, however, the steamboat company changed the name of Goodspeed's Landing to East Haddam Landing. The two villages have now merged imperceptably into the town of East Haddam, of which both are a part.This map was originally part of an atlas published by F. W. Beers & Co.
