DescriptionStreet with horse-drawn wagons, horse drawn carriages, and a horse-drawn omnibus. Multi-story commercial buildings line the street. From left building, signs read: "China & Crockery", "Hubbard Escort", and "Daily and Weekly Times". The tower at left is the Church of the Redeemer Universalist. The large neo-classical style building with dormers in the mansard roof, iron cresting, and balustrades is the Aetna Life Insurance Comany. The smaller four story building to its immediate left is the Aetna Insurance Company. The tower at right is St. John's Episcopal Church. Several utility poles and wires line the street. Men, women, and a dog are on the sidewalk. Piles of snow are beside the curb.

St. John's was at 178 Main Street.
The Aetna Insurance Company was at 226 Main Street.
The Aetna Life Insurance Company building was located at 228 Main Street. It was originally built by the Charter Oak Life Insurance Company in 1869.
